Mayor Karachi Demands Disarming of Police

Mayor Karachi Wasim Akhtar said non trained police officials killed six people including children in two years.

He demanded that the police should be unarmed. Moreover, he said trained police never fire bullets on public.

The Sindh government asking federal government for more powers but keeping local bodies resources to itself. Country cannot progress or democracy could strengthen without implementing article 140-A of the constitution.

He further stated that Deputy Mayor Elections were put on halt for 17 months due to which the system suffered.

According to a press release issued by KMC media department he expressed these views while talking to media representatives at the deputy mayor election in KMC head office on Thursday.

He paid a visit of the election camps of MQM and PPP and met with the candidates of deputy mayor. He then went for casting his vote with deputy mayor candidate Arshad Hassan at 3 pm.

Mayor Karachi said police were given license to kill citizens which is unfortunate.

Local bodies elections were held on the suo moto action of the Supreme Court however the feudal thinking not allowing this system to get strong or successful.  The deputy mayor had resigned in front of media but 17 months wasted unnecessarily. Today truth will prevail and team work would be done whoever would be elected deputy mayor, he stated.

He said all parties were coordinated for votes for deputy mayor and results will provide the details who cooperated with us.

He said we have filed petition in the Supreme Court for implementation of article 140-A of the constitution and we expect an early ruling on this.

He said the court had given its verdict on the closure of solid waste management board and handing over of cleaning work to KMC but provincial government did not comply this too. We have also filed a request in the high court for implementation of court’s orders. Later on Mayor Karachi also congratulated newly elected Deputy Mayor, Syed Arshad Hassan.
