Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) Lahore Omar Shaikh despite facing severe criticism on his stance over the motorway rape victim on social media reiterates his stance on the issue.

According to the police officer the woman who was raped in front of his children thought that it was France. Earlier speaking to a private news channel regarding the incident, the CCPO had said that the woman in question should have not traveled alone in the night on the motorway.

Interestingly Shehzad Akbar who is Special Assistant to Prime Minister (SAPM) for accountability non- maintainable also defended him.

While talking to media the police officer said no family in Pakistan allows a woman to leave the home after 12:30 in the night.

He was of the view that he didn’t mean to hold the rape victim responsible for  the happening but he actually he had wanted to convey message to the families that society over here is like that where incidents like it may take place. “They need to be careful in future,” he maintained.

He stated that the rape victim opted to travel midnight because her entire family is in France and she while deciding to travel in night had France in her orientation.

Shaikh said that society in France stands protected due to high ground of morality besides having cover of rule of law over there. He said as the writ of the government is established in countries like France so the women got no fear of whatsoever and they travel in night safely on motorways.

On Wednesday a woman was allegedly gang raped during a robbery bid in Gujjarpura while travelling on the motorway.

The victim was travelling with her children in a car when the vehicle ran out of fuel. She called a relative and sent him her location on the Motorway.

The woman told police that she was waiting for the family to arrive to pick her and the children when two armed assailants allegedly attacked her.

According to media reports which quoted the police, a suspect hit the car with clubs and the other one held them hostage at gunpoint. The attackers then took her and the children to a nearby forested area where the victim claims they gang raped her. Later on, they robbed her of valuables and left her stranded.
