PTI senior leadership forces itself into prison van in Lahore to kick off court arrest drive

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf (PTI) leaders have presented themselves for arrest on Wednesday as the party’s ‘Jail Bharo Tehreek’ (court arrest drive) has kicked off from Lahore.
According to PTI Chief, Imran Khan who is also the former premier, the court arrest drive or Jail Bharo Tehreek aims to counter the attacks on the fundamental rights violation and economic meltdown of the country.
In a video shared on Twitter, Shah Mehmood Qureshi while speaking from inside the police van proudly stated that it was a matter of great pride for him to give his arrest as he had promised.
He was of the view that the court arrest movement will continue till the imported government gives up on lawlessness matters in the country. He was of the view that it would continue to be exercised by the party’s leaders and workers when the current regime is held responsible for its deeds.
On the other hand another leader of PTI Fawad Chaudhry said that numerous party leaders and workers, including Qureshi, Umar, Ejaz Chaudhry and others have given themselves up for arrest, Dawn.com reported.
He was of the view that 500 to 700 PTI’s workers have volunteered themselves under the court arrest drive. He had maintained that the police had arrived with vans to arrest them but after viewing thousands of people it (police) had started worrying.
Meanwhile Imran Khan himself has been securing bails from the law of courts in a number of cases which are registered against him. It would be a real surprise for the government, if he also presented himself to the police for the arrest under the same drive. So far, he continues to control politics in the country while sitting at his residence in Zaman Park, Lahore.
The interior minister, Rana Sanaullah Khan had earlier vowed to arrest Imran Khan and make him an inmate in the same prison where he (Sanaullah Khan) was kept as the prisoner during the PTI’s term in the government.
However, Imran Khan has been dodging the interior minister and securing bails in different cases from the courts. Khan has not given a chance to the interior minister to arrest him in the cases which are registered against him.
On the other hand, the renowned journalist, Hamid Mir on his twitter account has shared a video of leaders/workers of PTI who are damaging a police vehicle during the court arrest drive.
“In Jail Bharu movement, you make arrests yourself and then abuse and vandalize the arresters. I don’t understand anything, what will you get by trying to break the glass by climbing on the police cars?” he stated in a Tweet.
