In order to get a clear picture about the functions of Human Resource Management (HRM) in an organization, we must look at the practice of recruiting, hiring, assigning and managing personnel.

The writers have tried to elaborate the functions of Human Resource Department (HRD) besides differentiating HRD and Human Resource Management.

In recent times, HRM is considered to be the mere ‘human resources’. The Human Resource Department (HRD) of a business or organization is often responsible for developing, implementing and monitoring the firm’s policies regarding employees and their interaction with the organization concerned.

Now, coming back to the importance of HRM in an organization, by working besides other departments, the HRD is bound to strengthen the workers.

The line managers collaborate with the Human Resource Division (HRD) to find new recruitments, assessment of workers and their performances.

They also take the necessary steps to increase efficiency of workers. In this way they do add value and worth to the organization.

The HRM’s duty is to facilitate the provision of due technology. It does determine that how and where work is to be done.

It helps managers and employees in accomplishment of their duties. It is responsible for the due adjustments in order to meet the task of healthy organizational change.

It assists the organization in attracting and retaining skillful people.                    Following are some of the hints determining objectives to fulfill by an HRD for the benefit of its parent organization:

  • HRM places equal emphasis on a company’s quantity and quality of staff. They are responsible for hiring motivated employees to increase productivity and efficiency through profit maximization and cost reduction.
  • They are responsible for maintaining a quality of work life for the employees to keep the workplace favorable and workers motivated.
  • By improving the skills and abilities of the employees, productive HRM practices will boost organizational performance.
  • The Human Resource professionals must also carry out timely evaluations to distinguish between high and low performers and give recognition to employees for their achievements to improve morale in the workplace and keep them motivated.
  • Human Resource managers are also responsible for conflict management in the workplace to avoid any inconvenience in the workplace and disturb the working environment.
  • Compensation and salary payments are also taken care of by Human Resource managers.
  • A healthy work culture is established and to help employees better communicate their issues with the company, Human Resource managers need to make sure there is effective communication among employees. Employers can also benefit from this type of workplace environment by openly criticizing employees’ work or rewarding them when their achievements surpass expectations.
  • Human Resource professionals must be aligned with the company goals and strategic corporate decisions, including evaluating employees and projecting staffing needs based on organizational demand to allow for increased efficiency, productivity and good decision making.
