Social media in Pakistan continues to criticize rallies, placards and demonstrations which were made on the occasion of Women’s Day and in a major move an adjournment motion has also been submitted to the secretariat of National Assembly against them.
This adjournment motion has been submitted by JUI-F’s MNA Shahida Akhtar Ali. It states that on the name of ‘Women Azadi March’ (march for liberation of women) vulgarity and brazenness was spread in a few major cities of Pakistan.
“On the name of rights for women to serve vested interests posters and banners (controversial) were printed and this is beyond imagination as how such demonstrations were allowed in Islamic Republic of Pakistan,” further stated the adjournment motion.
It said that this sort of thinking has revealed that the aim of this campaign was to destroy religious and social values over here besides damaging family system.
“Action should be taken against the organizers of these rallies immediately and the motion needs to be approved to make debate on it,” the adjournment motion said.
Dozens of women had participated in the Aurat Azadi March on Friday (March 8) in Islamabad and other major cities to mark International Women’s Day in the country.
They were holding some placards and chanting feminist slogans and demanding recognition of their rights.
In Islamabad they gathered outside the National Press Club Islamabad and made a rally around F-6 Markaz.
The participants through slogans and speeches which they made on this occasion demanded putting to an end to violence against women besides asking for required legislation to protect women’s rights.
Similar rallies were also held in other cities including Karachi and others and language and diction of some of placards has been talk of the country after holding of these rallies by some groups of women. The content of some of placards was rated vulgar by some social media activists and they strongly criticized this trend. Posts continued to be posted over the issue despite lapse of a few days since these rallies took place in a few cities.
Pictures of some women holding some controversial placards have been making rounds on the social media which continue to invite criticism and there seems no end to it at the moment.
One of placard reads as “There are more important things to do than to get married.” Another controversial placard stated: “I will reheat meal and make your bed warm by yourself.” Some women were carrying posters on which it was inscribed in Urdu which meant “Get worry about my freedom instead of worrying about my marriage.”
“Toxic masculinism is injurious to health- a message from Ministry of Women. How could I know where your sock is? I’m Wanderer, Bad Character. I’m single, bad character and free,” these were some inscriptions on placards which some women were holding in different demonstrations which were organized in different cities to mark the women day.
Another placard has been very viral on social media which reads as “Tu Karay tou stud, Main Karun to slut (if you (man) do it then you’re like stud and when I (woman) do it then you call me slut.”
Critics over the matter have been interpreting the controversial placards as a technique to pave way to adopt western culture over here. They are of the view that foreign funding is involved behind these rallies which aims to destroy the basic fabric of the society on the name of liberation of women.
