Importance of Time Management and its Utilization

“Time flies over us, but leaves its shadow behind.” (Nathaniel Hawthorne)

Time management refers to the procedure of preparing and exercising conscious control over the amount of time expended on specific activities, particularly to increase effectiveness, efficiency, and productivity.

According to Claessens, Roe, and Rutte (2009), “Time management can be defined as a set of behaviors that are believed to aid efficiency and alleviate stress.”

Time management and the best utilization of time are very important for everyone, especially for students. Unfortunately, the younger generation often doesn’t know how to effectively utilize and manage their time.

The purpose of this writing is to guide the students about the importance of time in their lives.

After the summer vacations in the first class, a question was asked: ‘What did you do during the vacations?’ The majority of students answered, ‘Nothing.’ Why was this the answer? The reason is that teachers are not adequately training students on how to better utilize their time.

They spend their time on mobile phones but don’t benefit from it. They can best utilize the time with technology also. Brian Tracy In his book Eat That Frog highlights the importance of undertaking the most challenging and important tasks first.

He argues that effective time management includes overcoming procrastination and staying focused on high-value activities that lead to important results.

Teachers can provide several tips to help students save time and guide them on how to best utilize it. A major concern is that, students get frustrated when a lot of tasks come arise. Every person should prioritize the most urgent and important tasks first, such as completing an assignment due tomorrow, as it has a significant impact on grades and the deadline is near.

Next, focus on urgent but less important tasks; for example, if you suddenly hear a fire alarm, attending to safety is urgent, while the lecture can wait. Then, concentrate on non-urgent but important activities, like studying a subject regularly to understand it deeply. This is essential for long-term success, though it isn’t immediately urgent unless an exam is approaching. Finally, address non-urgent and unimportant activities, like using social media. Giving time to yourself to live a healthy life is also important. Develop your reading skills and choose the best books to change your life. Enhance your writing skills and take the time to observe the natural beauty of the world. Use technology positively to foster personal growth. Explore your interests and turn them into hobbies to lead a progressive life. Ends
