Ruling against abortion drug mifepristone: A federal judge in Texas has ruled against a popular abortion medication mifepristone which is used by a large number of Americans.
On April 7th Matthew Kacsmaryk, a federal judge of Taxis has ruled against an abortion medication named as mifepristone.
Mifepristone is a medication is one of two most commonly used drugs which is used for abortion in the first 10 weeks of gestation. This medication also has 23 years old approval by the Federal Drug Administration (FDA).
According to Wikipedia Mifepristone which is also known as RU-486, is a medication used in combination with misoprostol to bring about a medical abortion during pregnancy and manage early miscarriage. This combination is claimed to be 97% effective during the first 63 days of pregnancy.
Earlier, nine month ago, the America’s Supreme Court had also rescinded the constitutional right to abortion by returning this matter to the elected representatives of people.
The ruling of Judge Matthew Kacsmaryk certainly would have massive impact on the residents of states of US which are considered abortion friendly states. The citizens of these states could face more issues in ending pregnancies, which earlier they didn’t have.
However, the ruling of the judge of Taxis would not take effect immediately as he has given the federal government to lodge an appeal against it in seven days.
The department of Justice and Danco Laboratories, which manufacture mifepristone requested the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals to keep the medication in question available.
The United States Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit is a federal court with appellate jurisdiction over the district courts in the federal judicial districts including Eastern District of Louisiana, Middle District of Louisiana, Western District of Louisiana, Northern District of Mississippi, Southern District of Mississippi, Eastern District of Texas, Northern District of Texas, Southern District of Texas and the Western District of Texas.
