Famous Poet and Journalist Ajmal Siraj passes away

Famous Poet and Journalist Ajmal Siraj has passed away. He was 56.

Ajmal Siraj was suffering from lung cancer from a couple of months.

He took his last breath at a local hospital in Karachi where he was admitted recently.

His contribution as a journalist was exemplary but the services he rendered in the field of literature especially as poet were of course unparalleled.

As being a working journalist he remained part of an Urdu daily Jassarat and wrote on literature and other subjects of life and covered a lot of beats in this way. He had been acting as Magazine Editor of Daily Jassarat.

Besides, he was a senior member of Karachi Press Club and Arts Council of Pakistan, Karachi.

He was considered a distinguished poet by Urdu critics and literary circles owing to his fresh metaphors and symbols. He addressed a plenty of subjects in creative terms.

Different centres of art and culture, time and again arranged sittings in honour of Ajmal Siraj.

At such sittings he was heard thoroughly by city poets, intellectuals and scholars. He recited his selected poetry from his Urdu poetry collection titled “Aur Mein Sochta Reh Gia.”

Including other organisations, Karachi Press Club’s Literary Committee, Arts Council of Pakistan, Dunyaae Adab, Halqaa e Arbaab e Takhleeq and Idaara e Yaadgaar e Ghalib held ‘sittings’ in honour of Ajmal Siraj.

The office bearers of Halqaa e Arbaab e Taleeq Sheikh Tariq Jameel, Dr Khalid Meer and others also gave away shields, awards and cash prizes to late Siraj. He was also given away ‘Jaun Elia Fann Award’ at that sitting held at Awaan e Jameel under the presidentship of Dr Peerzada Qasim who termed him more creative and a poet of unique words.

A prominent poet, journalist and Vlogger, Khalid Moin who runs a YouTube channel called “Adab Aur Funoon Nama” presented various shows on the personality and art of Ajmal Siraj. Ajmal Siraj himself had attended some of the programmes and took part in discussions on Urdu literature. He also presented his poetry in such shows. One of his meaningful couplets is presented in here that says:

“Hay daikhnay ki cheez tau ye iltifaat bhi

Daikho gayy tum gurez bhi aesa karon ga mein.”

ہے دیکھنے کی چیز تو یہ التفات بھی

دیکھو گے تُم گریز بھی ایسا کروں گا میں

(Though i am known for my adoring but my quitting will also be remembered).
