Detailed report sought on higher corruption ranking of Pakistan

Senator A Rehman Malik, Chairman Senate Standing Committee on Interior has taken suo moto notice on the report released by Transparency International on Corruption in which Pakistan is ranked 120 out of 180 countries on the Corruption Perceptions Index (CPI) 2019 which was 117 last year.

He has asked the Ministry of Interior to present a detailed report on the matter within 10 days which shall be presented in the next meeting of the committee.

The notice issued by Secretary Senate Standing Committee on Interior to Ministry of Interior here today on Friday sought a detailed report on the “Report of Transparency International on Corruption”.

Senator Malik said that the report has sent a wave of anxiety and chaos in the public which needs that the Ministry of Interior should coordinate with the Transparency International on Corruption to present a detailed report on the following points: –

  1. What is the procedure and criteria being adopted by Transparency International to evaluate Corruption in a country?

2.  The number and names of the Government Departments included by the Transparency International in the Study to evaluate Corruption in Pakistan on the Corruption Perceptions Index (CPI) 2019 during the last three years?

3. The detail of the statistics of the Corruption Perceptions Index (CPI) during the last three years?

The chairman of the committee Senator Malik said that he will appreciate the input of the Pakistan chapter of Transparency International in person and the date will be notified to discuss the report in the Committee. He said that the Committee may also hold a public hearing on the Corruption.
