Central President of Pakistan Muslim League Quaid-e-Azam (PML-Q), Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain besides suspending the basic membership of PML-Q of Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi, has also issued show cause notice to him to showing intention to merge PML-Q with Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf (PTI).

Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain called a hurriedly called meeting of PML-Q on Monday which was attended by Central Secretary General of PML-Q, Tariq Bashir Cheema, Senior Vice President, Chaudhry Salik Hussain and others.

The party showed its concerns over the statement of Pervaiz Elahi in which he had hinted to merge PML-Q in the PTI.

According to  a statement issued by the party, the meeting took very  serious notice of the statement of Elahi. The party maintained that the provincial president of the party (Pervaiz Elahi) cannot merge the party to another party.

“You are asked to explain (your) unconstitutional and illegal statement (about the merger),” the statement further stated.

According to the statement of the party, PML-Q, as a political party, has its own identity, vote bank, party discipline and manifesto. It stated that Elahi violated the party discipline by giving statements in the media about the merger of the party.

“You are given seven-day notice to explain your stance over the matter in person or through a lawyer over this matter. Otherwise action would be taken against you under the article 16 and 50 of the constitution of the party. Till your explanation into this effect your basic membership is suspended,” the statement concluded.

This is pertinent to mention here that Chaudhry Pervaiz Ealhi after obtaining a vote of confidence from the Provincial Assembly of Punjab, forwarded a dissolution of the provincial assembly to the governor Punjab.

As the governor Punjab refused to sign the summary, the provincial assembly dissolved automatically after two days, as was provided in the Constitution of Pakistan.

Currently the process is underway to appoint a caretaker setup in Punjab. The caretaker setup can be appointed after due consultation of the leader of the House and the leader of the opposition. Hamza Shehbaz is the leader of the opposition in the Punjab assembly who is currently abroad. In case both these figures don’t agree on a name for caretaker Chief Minister (CM), then the matter would be forwarded to the Election Commission of Pakistan.
