Need to discourage ‘yellow journalism’ by so-called anchors and Youtubers
By Zaib Azkaar Hussain
A negative trend of promoting ‘yellow journalism’ is gaining ground nowadays which is highly destructive to our society. Some so-called anchors and hosts have used to accusing people especially female presenters, actors and other artistes.
Certainly they have some political motives. A so-called opinion maker, a few days back talked thoroughly on such an incident in which a court of law (trial court) had announced capital punishments for the convicts involved in disrespecting an actress (Shabnum) and looting her house in Lahore.
The so-called expert defended the convicts (who were later forgiven by the complainant) and declared them respectable of the country. He said they were actually gamblers and a den were being run at the house of the victim.
Since the convicts were cheated in the gambling game, they got provoked and they did all the crimes due to passion of heart. A regrettable aspect of the matter was that the host of that show did not question the claims and instead supported all the claims of the expert guy.
Such nonsense and fake claims are talk of the town these day. The same expert cum anchor now as has leveled false allegation against another anchorperson, she registered a case.
Another lady (probably a provincial minister) has also lodged a complaint against him and he has been arrested for investigation purposes.
Those so-called anchors analysts and Youtubers, doing “yellow journalism” must be made accountable in legal terms.
Perhaps the authorities concerned prefer to remain silent and unmoved due to political reasons.
They maintain silence unless the sitting government is not targeted by someone.
The investigators are only moved when they have received the written complaints.
According to reports, Dr Umar Adil arrested for alleged inappropriate comments against a female anchor.
The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has taken YouTuber Dr. Umar Adil into custody over allegations of using foul language against a female anchor.
According to an FIA spokesperson, the Cyber Crime Wing in Lahore arrested Dr. Adil following a complaint from the female anchor, who works for a private TV channel.
The FIA spokesperson confirmed that a formal case has been registered against Dr. Umar Adil, and an investigation is currently underway.
The YouTuber is accused of making inappropriate comments about female anchors on social media, which led to the legal action.
Dr. Umar Adil’s remarks which were made during a podcast, suggested that female anchors were merely decorative pieces on TV and lacked merit. This podcast received backlash from social media users and fellow journalists. Some very rightly questioned the moral integrity of the accuser.
It is good to notice that many social media users voiced their support for women journalists, urging investigative agencies to uncover the motivations behind Dr. Adil’s comments and impose strict penalties on those responsible. They maintained that such attacks aimed to silence the strong voices.
Of course these attacks aimed at silencing bold anchors and promoting certain people, besides discouraging working women through these negative comments. In other words it shows male-dominated approach based on a class society.
