Writers and Scholars term Shah Latif a great poet of his times

Shah Abdul Latif Bhittai was paid homage by the writers and scholars at a meeting organised by Urdu Sindhi Adabi Sangat (USAS) at the premises of Government Boys Degree College (GBDC) Gulistane Jauhar.

Dr Rais Samdani who presided over the meeting, chief guest Zaib Azkaar Hussain, guests of honour Muhammad Aslam Bhutto and Dr Auje Kamal, Princpal of the College Noor Ahmed Soomro, Chairperson USAS Gulnaz Mehmood and Majeed Rehmani addressed the meeting and termed Shah Latif a great Sufi Poet.

Majeed Rehamani who conducted the proceedings of the function on behalf of USAS mentioned that the principal of the college Noor Ahmed Soomro was a kindhearted person who extended his fullest cooperation to remember great poet Shah Latif.

Dr Rais Samdani said Shah had preferred to stay at the ‘Bhit’ that later converted into a famous place called ‘Bhittai’.

Zaib Azkaar Hussain held that Shah in his poetry pleaded the cause of humanism and peace across the world.

He also presented his verses paying glowing tributes to Shah Latif for his great creative deeds.

Muhammad Aslam Bhutto, author of two books (in Sindhi language) on Shah Latif, observed that Shah was a poet of submission and withdrawal in terms of spirituality and mysticism.

He emphasized on exploration of Shah’s works and their directions in poetry and philosophy.

Dr Auje Kamal who was due to deliver a key note address on Shah Latif’s poetry and personality failed to do so because of the time factor. He said he was unable to present all details in a less time. He stressed that the teachers must play a vital role in educating and enlightening younger generation on the poetry and message of Shah Latif.

Earlier USAS Chairperson Gulnaz Mehmood welcomed the guests. She said that her organisation was determined to use every effort to discover the original poetry of the original poets of Pakistan.

Principal Noor Ahmed Soomro observed that his college would always welcome and assist scholars and writers to hold good literary functions at the premises of his college.

Meer Hussain Ali Imam presented a vote of thanks on behalf of the USAS.
