The arrest of former Prime Minister of Pakistan, Imran Khan seems to be on cards after cancellation of his bail and hundreds of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf’s workers have camped outside his house in Zaman Park Lahore to resist his arrest. The news items are taking rounds on the social media surrounding the point, will Imran Khan be arrested today?
These workers have camped outside the ex premier’s residence to resist his arrest and they’re vowing not to allow the police to arrest him under any circumstances.
This is pertinent to mention here that an anti-terrorism court (ATC) had revoked the bail of Imran Khan, the other day, in a case pertaining to protest against the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) last year.
After the cancellation of the bail, the PTI workers started assembling in front of Imran Khan’s residence in Zaman Park when news started taking rounds on the social media that the police is moving in to arrest him.
These workers also staged a protest demonstration in which they were chanting slogans against steps to arrest him, after the arrival of police’s vehicles on the spot.
Reportedly massive police deployment have been made around Imran Khan’s residence to avoid any untoward situation.
According to some media reports
in October last year, police had launched a case under the anti-terrorism laws and since then the former premier was on interim bail in the case. The PTI leadership had asked the party workers to stage protests across the country, including near the ECP, after Khan was disqualified over hiding details of party funding.
Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah Khan has already vowed to arrest Imran Khan and he has also maintained, as per some media reports, to keep him in the same cell of the prison as the inmate, where Rana himself was kept during the era of PTI government.
The interior minister during a public gathering recently had maintained that the former premier would be provided every facility in the prison except the ‘one’ which he didn’t elaborate further.
Some close aides of the former premier including Shahbaz Gill, Azam Sawati, Fawad Chaudhry have already been to the prison recently in different cases. A very close ally of Imran Khan, and the former interior minister, Sheikh Rasheed is still in prison who is facing charges of compromising the security of Bilawal Bhutto Zardari through his statement in the media.
The former prime minister in several cases could not appear before the court on the grounds that he was not medically fit on account of a gun attack on him during which his leg was reportedly injured.
The government seems committed to arrest Imran Khan and there are chances that he would be arrested soon. However, the PTI workers believe that Imran Khan is their redline and they wouldn’t allow anyone to cross it on the social media platform including Twitter. ends
