Sugar subsidy scam still echoing

Sugar subsidy scam continues to echo on the political environment despite happening of other fiascos in the country like PIA’s plane crash and spread of coronavirus.

Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz’s MNA Mian Javed Latif on Monday has alleged that when former Prime Minister of Pakistan Nawaz Sharif had given subsidy on sugar the price of the commodity witnessed around Rs10 fall. Contrary to it, he said when Prime Minister of Pakistan Imran Khan awarded subsidy on sugar its price swelled by Rs33.

In a tweet on Monday Javed Latif stated that when Sharif had awarded subsidy on sugar its price had fallen from Rs54 to Rs45. Contrary to it when ‘Niazi’ (Imran Khan) provided subsidy the price of sugar swelled from Rs52 to Rs85, he said.

“Now they (PTI’s leaders) say Nawaz had also given subsidy,” he further said in his tweet.

According to inquiry commission report of Federal Investigation Agency some sugar mills owners minted a lot of money from national exchequer by availing subsidy on sugar. A few days back forensic report of the commission was made public by the government in which misappropriation of a few sugar mills owners was highlighted besides highlighting as how much losses in terms of money they caused to the national kitty.
