Slapping by Fawad to Sami: A condemnable act

[wp_ad_camp_1] Slapping by Fawad to Sami: A condemnable act

This was very surprising that Federal Minister for Science and Technology Fawad Chaudhry on Friday night slapped senior anchorperson Sami Ibrahim at a wedding ceremony in Faisalabad following an argument in wake of the ongoing spat between the two. It is very strange that a minister takes such a negative step against a journalist and later tries to create an impression whether it was a personal matter between two persons. A person who has been holding a public office, cannot satisfy people by terming the matter a personal one.

Since Fawad Chaudhry was holding a public office, he should have thought before an illegal action that his unlawful act could instigate other influential people to express their anger in the same way against their opponents.

Regardless of the fact whether senior journalist Sami Ibrahim was faulty or an accuser for none, a federal minister should have maintained patience and preferred to take a legal way against the accuser instead of handling the matter with a feudal approach. Article 14 of the Constituion guarantees the inviolability of dignity of man in this country. This law refrains from torturing anyone under any pretext.

It is said the senior anchorperson had alleged that some elements within the ruling Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) were hatching a conspiracy against Prime Minister Imran Khan to oust him and to weaken the Pakistan Army. He alleged that Fawad Chaudhry was among the group who were conspiring against the incumbent government. It is not fair to level such serious allegations against a minister of Imran Khan’s cabinet. A loud political view of the minister does not mean that he was hatching some conspiracy against the existing government and difference of opinion does not reflect a conspiracy in a democratic era and that story could be rejected. However, the minister responded by using slurs against the anchorperson that was quite unfair. He also accused Sami of blackmailing him when he was the information minister. At that time he should have made a complaint, but he didnt do.

On Friday, first the minister tweeted that he has initiated criminal proceedings against the senior anchorperson and he would teach him a lesson in accordance with the law. However, later that night when both of them met at a wedding function in Faisalabad, they had a bitter argument, which led to the minister slapping him on the face that was a very negative and insulting action.
