Suo moto notice taken against forced conversion of Hindu girls

Chairman Senate’s panel on Interior Senator A Rehaman Malik has taken serious notice of alleged kidnapping of two Hindu girls and their forced conversion in Dharki, Sindh and asked Interior Ministry and the Government of Sindh (GoS) to furnish report in this reference within a week.

In suo moto notice Senator Malik on Monday asked the authorities concerned to present detailed report in this regard for taking further necessary action on the matter.

The alleged kidnapping and forced conversion of religion of these two Hindu girls have been recently attracting attention of media. This incident took place lately in village of Hafiz Salman near town of Dharki, District Ghotki Sindh.

Two Hindu sisters Raveena and Reena were reportedly abducted and later forced to convert religion while their father is running from pillar to post get justice. He may have been seen in extreme despair as he is being told to have beaten himself and asked someone to kill him. The father of these sisters says in the video clip that he would not leave this place to mark his protest against injustice.

Earlier even FIR was not being registered into the case but later it was lodged only after strong protest of affectedly family. One of these girls is as young as 12 and other one is reported to be 14 years old. According to some media reports the police in lodged FIR admitted that one girl was 12 and other was 14 years old. Under the law of land these girls are not adult and they may not be get married on account of their young age.

After abduction of these girls they were moved to Rahim Yar Khan and after conversion they were married. The victim family believe that they were first kidnapped and later forced to change their religion.

A video has been very viral on social media in which the Nikah’s ceremony is being held of these girls. While in another video clip someone is announcing that they have with their consent converted.

Earlier the Prime Minister of Pakistan, Imran Khan had ordered to recover these young girls who were reportedly shifted to Rahim Yar Khan from Dharki. The Federal Information Minister, Fawad Chaudhry in his  tweet on March 23 had stated that the primer had asked the Chief Minister, Usman Buzdar to take measures to recover these girls and inquiry into this effect immediately be initiated.

Social activists have been very active over this matter and they have been strongly criticizing the authorities concerned over it. They are of the view that how these girls may opt to change their religion when they don’t qualify to cast vote due to minimum age restriction. Under Pakistani law a person should be at least 18 years old to become eligible to cast vote in any election. They are of the view as how only young Hindu girls opt to convert to other religion and things like it never happen with some adult man or woman belonging to Hindu religion. Moreover, as soon as they are converted their marriages take place immediately.
