Pakistan Decides to Seal Wagha Border

Pakistani authorities have decided on Thursday to completely seal Wagha Border for a preliminary duration of two weeks with immediate effect to control spread of coronavirus.

In an announcement issued by the Ministry of Interior and addressed to the Director General Pakistan Rangers (Punjab) the ministry ordered complete closure of the Wagha Border which connects the country with its neighbouring country India.

“I am directed to refer to the subject, sealing of Wagha Borders, and to convey the approval of the competent authority to complete sealing of Wagha Border for an initial period of two weeks (14 days) with immediate effect in order to prevent spread of COVID-19 in the best interest of both countries,” stated the letter.

Pakistan has already sealed its Western Border connecting it with Afghanistan and Iran on March 13 as was directed by the National Security Committee in its meeting which was held on the same day.

According to media reports Pakistan is witnessing sharp rise in coronavirus cases which has already risen to around 300. Two deaths on account to this epidemic have already been reported so far in the country and both these occurred in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KPP).
